A Poem for the Sun at Solstice

For the Sun on the Summer Solstice

I
I see the sun rise in me,
I see the moon set.
I see Rose blossoming in my heart,
And the Earth being born from my womb.

I feel the Holy Spirit rush in me.
I see the fire at the centre of the earth burn in me.
I see the waters of the world rise in me.

I hear the music of the spheres play in me.
I hear words of love announce in me.
What I do not hear or do not see does not exist.
I see the whole of life alive in me.

II
In all this, I am not who I thought I was.
I am not who I am.
But simply,
I am.

As I am, all of life lives in me.
All energies flow in me.
All animals roam in me.
All birds sing and take flight in me.

All is born in me, all dies in me, all resurrects in me.
All songs are sung in me, all stories told, fires lit and waters drunk.
Life is alive in me, and I am alive in life.

III
Who is this self, then, alive in me without a name?
With no body but mine, no voice but mine, no heart but mine,
No womb but mine?
Nowhere to rest her head but on my pillow.

Who am I who is host to life?
To the wild energies of nature, of fire, of the animal kingdom, and the plants?
Who am I that Oak grows in me and has roots as deep as the earth in me?
Who am I that I do not burn when the fire of life is alight in me?
Who am I that I am not blinded by the midday sun shining in me?

Who am I that I carry the sorrow of the world in me?
The pains of life, the tears of the children?
The sacred blood spilt, the body crucified?
Who am I that I drink the blood and eat the body?
Who am I who dies and then resurrects?

IV
Who am I who lives across continents and far off seas?
Who knows the peoples of unknown lands?
Who dreams with native peoples at night and honours the sun at dawn?
Who am I living in the rhythm of life with people I do not know?

Who am I who holds all of life in me?
Who brings healing and comfort and compassion to others?
Who am I who writes sacred books life after life?
Who am I who lives time and again into understanding and wisdom?
Who is life who gives understanding and wisdom time after time?

I do not know who I am. I do not know who life is.
But I know that I am, I know that life is.
I know that life lives in me, and that I live in life.
And that it is impossible to separate me from her or her from me.

We are one.

In a wondrous mystery I am lived by life and life is lived by me.
All that is, is alive in me and I am alive in all that lives.
