SCRIPTIO DIVINA

An invitation to engage with your Awakening through your own sacred writing.

Sacred writing, or in Latin, Scriptio Divina, is an ancient spiritual practice, especially among women, to engage the path of Awakening.

The term was coined by Professor Stephanie Paulsell of Harvard Divinity School and it resonated deeply with me the first time I read it. What is unique about Scriptio Divina, as compared to ordinary journaling is that our writing both responds to the sacred experience of meditation, and is itself a sacred practice. We only have to consider the medieval illuminated manuscripts for an example of the reverence with which sacred writing was once practiced. With Scriptio Divina the Sacred flows beyond the meditative experience into our journal writing which itself becomes an integral part of the whole experience.

Accessible to all, Scriptio Divina offers a sacred way of engaging your inner life and connecting with what is most calling to you at the time.

Most of us only find out what’s really going on in our inner lives when we begin to write or journal.

The Scriptio Divina sessions will be a natural progression from the deep experience of my own spiritual awakening which was almost entirely processed in my daily meditation and journaling. All that I shared of my explorations of the path to awakening in my book Light on Fire came from re-reading, processing and integrating what was on my journals.

I’ve been writing in one form or another all my life. To guide others I draw on my 20 year daily sacred writing practice; my 2024 MA thesis, “Scriptio Divina: Exploring the Transformative Nature of Medieval Women’s Visionary Writing.”; Winner of Hay House writing competition 2019; MA in Creative Writing (1st class hons); along with all my other writing projects.
