The Cosmic Womb

Week 50 of the Calendar Year

A poem for Advent week 2

The Great Mother is the Darkness that gives birth to the Light,
The thunder of her labour sends tremors through the void.
Galaxies shudder into Being.
She is the Cosmic Womb that calls forth life out of her own self.

In her vibrations I feel myself shimmer into existence.
Atoms float in from far corners of the darkness and
coalesce into something which before was nothing.
In her primordial calling of me I am born.
I become a chalice, my womb is the Holy of Holies.

Today the Great Mother is labouring once more.
I feel her tremors shuddering in me.
This time she is giving birth through me. I will be her womb.
I join the Cosmic labour and give myself over to the pain of this Second Birth.
I labour not just with my body but with my whole being and
The New Earth is born through me.
