The Call to Awaken
Do you long to Awaken but don’t know what to do?
Welcome!
If you are like me, and millions of others, you may struggle to know how to Awaken. You may want to Awaken, and even long to be an Awakened soul, yet have no real idea how to turn that longing into a reality. Let me reassure you at the outset that this is not a personal failure – it is a cultural failure.
Western culture has evolved in such a way over the past 2,500 years that we have lost touch with our natural spirituality and with the natural spirituality of Life. We no longer recognize Awakening as a natural life event that is meant to unfold for each of us in early middle age. And even our religions have misled us by themselves confusing
religion with spirituality.
Through struggling to understand my own spontaneous Awakening I now know that Awakening is a natural life event with its own inner laws, dynamics and energetics which we no longer understand. But if we are to heal and to become whole at this time of great pain and suffering in our world we need to re-learn the art and process of Waking up. It is through Waking up that we allow ourselves to be transformed into the beings of love that we are in our original creation.
Waking up lays the foundation for living aligned with our highest purpose and calling. It allows us to live in soulful connection with ourselves, each other, nature and God.
My calling in life is to support others who want to Awaken by helping them to re-learn the natural art of Waking up. I hope my work and my book will help you to engage meaningfully with your own beautiful Awakening.
Blessings,
Aedamar xoxo
Our struggle to Awaken can present in two different ways.
We may indeed feel something spiritual stirring in us but we don’t know how to respond to it. Neither our culture nor traditional religion provides a context that shows us how to respond meaningfully to mature impulses for spiritual and even mystical awakening. Mostly, we have nowhere to turn for effective guidance on how to engage with the inner energies and dynamics of our desire impulse to Awaken. This inability to respond effectively to our spiritual impulses causes deep pain, confusion and frustration.
Or it may be that you have this much more common experience: that in middle age, despite having reached the markers of success in life, despite things looking good on the outside, inside we are feeling stuck and off track. We feel that our life is losing its meaning and purpose, and we long for something more in life but we don’t know what it is. We feel frustrated and anxious without really knowing why. Something is wrong, but we don’t know what it is.
The greatest eureka of my life was to identify these feelings as signs of spiritual dis-ease.
The Call to Awaken and Interpreting the Signs of Spiritual Dis-ease
If you recognize yourself in either of these descriptions, you are not alone. All my life I have lived with strong spiritual stirrings that I never knew how to integrate into my everyday life. And I have also lived with feelings of frustration, anxiety and longing that I did not know were natural signs of the impulse to Awaken trying to express itself in me.
So bereft is our culture and religious education of mature spiritual guidance that when profound spiritual experiences began to unfold during my new meditation practice in 2015, I did not even know that this was a Spiritual Awakening. When I asked my church for help, they refused.
In the five years since my Awakening began I have reflected deeply and researched widely, and what I have discovered is that spiritual awakening is a natural life event that we are designed to experience in early middle age but from which we have sadly, become estranged.
I’m Ready to Awaken
Just as nature has been de-wilded and the forests de-forested — we have been de-spiritualized. These travesties are all interconnected and have the same root cause that lies all the way back in the last Axial Age 2,500 years ago.
In the same way that we need to re-wild mother Nature, and replant her forests, so too do we need to re-spiritualize our lives and re-spiritualize Life itself. If we are to heal and to whole, individually and collectively, we must find a mature way to re-embrace the Sacred as the foundation stone of Life. If we want to live aligned with our true nature as spiritual- human beings we must learn how to Wake up.
I’m Ready to Re-spiritualize
The Path of Gold: A Guide to Awakening shares all that I have learned of the natural unfolding of the Awakening process – its energetics, dynamics and inner laws. The Path identifies the archetypal milestones of Awakening as a natural and universal life experience. It names the seven definitive stages of Awakening that every person will experience during their Awakening regardless of their faith or tradition. Awakening is a universal process to which everyone is called simply by virtue of our humanity.
