The Dawning of our Divinity
We are entering a new era. The Spiritual Age is coming in and with it, the dawning of our divinity. Life itself is unfolding a new era for humanity and inviting us into a new way of being, thinking and understanding — a new way of meaning making and a new way of using language. This is not a fanciful or untenable claim, rather it is part of the recognised and historic pattern of evolution of consciousness. As much as we know life evolves materially, it’s less well known that it also evolves at the level of consciousness.
The last time humanity experienced such a foundational shift in our consciousness was 2,500 years ago in the era known as The first Axial Period. That was when human consciousness spontaneously evolved or moved from animism and myth as our rich and beautiful frames for meaning making, and entered the rationalist, scientist era. A lot went wrong due to how humanity ignorantly utilised the new gifts of consciousness for our own ends rather than engaging holistically for the benefit of all. We are now living through the catastrophic consequences of human / patriarchal domination over the earth and her resources, over women, and over the poor and the already suffering people of the world, over everything deemed ‘Other’ by the ruling elite.
The genocide in Gaza, and the wars in Ukraine and elsewhere, are direct expressions of the warped usurpation of the gifts of life for the use and abuse by the elite against and at the expense of the powerless.
But, Life and consciousness are once again on the move and an evolutionary shift that has been rumbling underground for centuries is finally exploding into human consciousness and delivering a new Age to us. That means we are in a Second Axial shift which will be as profound for humanity as the last Axial shift has been. The shift this time is from rational, scientific thinking to a spiritual consciousness of love. Whereas the current and dominant way of meaning making is with the rational intellect, the mind, logic, and conceptual reasoning etc…, the new way being offered is a spiritual consciousness that employs spiritual intelligence, thinking-feeling with the heart, engages the higher ideals, and has the dominant characteristic of love. Of supreme importance is that the new Age is offering Love as the primary consciousness and energy for all.
When I wrote about this in my book, Light on Fire, in 2021, I still didn’t appreciate the scale and the power of the rising of this new Age. Now I better recognise that it is fully directed by its own intelligence, its own momentum, and its own energies, but that we are scrambling to meet all that is being offered. We are on the back foot, to say the least, in terms of our readiness to receive, engage and cooperate with the new consciousness. Yet, the evidence for the arrival of the new era is everywhere — especially in the violent breakdown of the world order but also in the longing of ordinary people such as you and me for a better life for all, for an end to wars, genocide, capitalism, consumerism, patriarchy, and all the broken systems that keep us broken. We are between Ages - the ending of one and the birthing of the new. It is ugly but with glimpses of how beautiful it could be.
One way in which the new Age is entering is through the visionary and mystical life. This has always been available as a path for communing with the higher realm, but was generally confined to an elite few. Not anymore! The mystical life is spontaneously sharing itself with so many of us ordinary people who unexpectedly find ourselves drawn into the beautiful and sacred energy of life that is transforming us at the depths of our being. Love is transforming us into her own, and his own, Self. Love is giving itself to us as the new way of being for all.
As alien as science and rational meaning making (and its offspring AI) was to people 2,500 years ago – love seems equally alien to our broken world. Yet, evolution does not bend before a disbelieving and doubting species, it follows its own inner laws, energies and dynamics. Life is offering a new era of love and spirituality to humanity. The question is, will we receive it?
This is what is in play for us now. Will we embrace the new way of being human? Will we surrender to the transformative power of love and learn to live in, with, by, and from love? Will we let got the divisive and destructive ways of the improper use of the rational mind bent on destruction for the material benefit of the few? Will we? Will I? Will you?
This is what I am committed to, and I know you are too — otherwise you wouldn’t be reading articles such as this.
The Spiritual Age has its own way of using language and its own unique form of expression and writing. Its language is mystical and symbolic and is akin to revelation. Its texts are sacred. When I share my mystical writing I am playing my part in contributing what is given to me to contribute, to do, and to share, in service to consciously and intentionally birthing the new era. Mystical and sacred writing is the medicine I have to share together with an ever deepening sense of the critical importance for each of us to be a channel for the Love that is trying to come in.
We all long for a better way of being alive on mother earth at this time, a better way for everyone, and for the planet herself. One way to help co-create a better world is to acknowledge that a new way is arriving and to recognise that it’s up to us whether we will cooperate with it and so receive its gifts. Otherwise, we will have a repeat of all that went wrong with the Age of Reason, and one risk that is already evident in many places is the commodification and commercialisation of spirituality. It is imperative to avoid turning our spiritual gifts into a money making racket.
The old consciousness privileged human to human communication using words at a very ordinary level, everyday discourse, or ‘idle chat’ as the philosopher Martin Heidegger called it. It lent itself to precisely the abuse of language and meaning we witness everyday in the corridors of power. The new way wants authentic communication, truth, and an expansion of our channels to include more confident and direct communication between this realm and the divine realm. Mystical and visionary experience and language is one way for all of us to embrace communication with the divine. Spiritual consciousness is not interested in maths or science, it is concerned with the higher ideals of justice, peace, equality, and most especially love.
The old way was to know things through logic, science, and the mathematical mind of calculation and measurement. The new way is to know people, beings and things by loving them.
