Developing a mystical worldview
Life essentially is about meaning making at the deepest level where wisdom resides. For us to walk towards that truth our worldview needs to be expansive enough to accommodate such a reality. Humans intuitively long for meaning in life because meaning is what makes life worthwhile. We can endure even great suffering if we can develop a meaningful narrative around the events. Deep meaning is synonymous with wisdom and in the ancient world the early philosophers were devoted to philo-Sophia which means ‘the love of wisdom.’ People longed for wisdom and prayed to become wise and it was acknowledged as the highest achievement in life. But the broken state of the world today testifies to a fundamental loss of wisdom and lack of meaning in life. Rather than us living inside a wisdom worldview we live within a rational-scientific cosmology that is designed for facts, figures, logic and calculation – perfect for the consumerist world it has constructed. But we will never flourish with only the trinkets and baubles offered by the culture. The primary needs for human flourishing are story, meaning, empathy, compassion, relationship, love and peace, which the rational worldview simply cannot deliver because it is not designed to do so.
However, many of us are aware that the world is in a period of profound evolutionary shift. We are moving out of the current rational-scientific worldview and into a new Era of spiritual consciousness that offers us a new and mystical cosmology and worldview. The possibility being offered is to move from logic to love but humans must accept and cooperate in the work of this shift. The only way to align with it is through spiritual awakening and inner transformation to the higher consciousness of love. Life and consciousness have been moving towards this shift all along and it has reached its apogee in exactly this time that we are alive together on Earth. But what is unprecedented is that under the rational-scientific paradigm, over the past 2,000 years, we allowed for the wanton desecration of life and nature, and the jettisoning of wisdom as the highest value in life. Therefore, we are profoundly unprepared for the work of collectively transitioning to this era and this new way of being. The extreme chaos of our times is born of the collision of evolutionary energies meeting abject human brokenness. Chaos abounds and it is not clear if we will survive as a species. But it was never meant to be like this. Arrogance, hubris, and the inappropriate dominance of the scientific worldview are to blame.
Yet, there is still a part of us that is designed to cooperate in evolutionary change and it’s the same part of us that is designed to undergo spiritual transformation during the ordinary course of life. But this is the part from which collectively we became estranged over the millennia in favour of facts, figures, logic and measuring. This part of us is designed to undergo profound inner transformation of consciousness as a natural unfolding of human life and also allows us to understand and engage with evolutionary transformation of consciousness itself. This part is designed to help us transition to higher consciousness and wisdom in the second half of life. It’s the part that intuitively knows that all of life is sacred, connected, interrelated and interdependent. It’s the part that knows that at our core we are divine beings made by Love and for love. It’s the part of us that needs to undergo our spiritual awakening to our True Self if we are ever to find real meaning and deep purpose in life. It’s the part of us that longs for wisdom and is bereft to live in this broken and increasingly meaningless world.
The only hope, as I see it, is for us to revivify this part of us that still knows how to guide us into our awakening, knows how to follow the path of inner transformation and to awaken us to our inherent divinity here and now. We broke the world and we need to fix it. We do this by each of us committing to the path of inner transformation, to being ‘re-born in spirit’ as Jesus phrased it. For Consciousness to succeed in delivering a new era and a new consciousness to humanity we must cooperate in receiving what is being offered. We must allow our current consciousness to be awakened to the new consciousness of love. This will deliver a mystical worldview in which all is known to be one in love. It’s the worldview or cosmology that guides and directs all of creation into a loving harmony. It is the only worldview that will facilitate ‘heaven on earth’ as Jesus described it.
It’s this mystical worldview that burns most fiercely in my heart, my mind, my spirit, and my soul at this time. I feel it in my body, in mystical ecstasy, and I long for all of us to live from this consciousness as our everyday state of being. This mystical worldview is being offered to us today by evolution if we could only surrender to its beauty. I know that there is no point at which my heart does not bleed into the Sacred Heart, nor the Sacred Heart bleed into mine. We are one. There is no division, there is no delineation. There is no point at which my heart or any heart is separate from the Sacred Heart of life. No heart can ever be separate from the Sacred Heart because the Sacred Heart encompasses all that exists in love. Our job is to accept a mystical worldview consonant with the new consciousness that evolution is delivering to our planet at this time. The old and broken consciousness is dying. Its death rattle is heard across the planet in wars, famine, genocide, greed, ego, arrogance and all the other ills of our time. We cannot place our hope in what is dying to help us live into the future. The only hope is for each of us to awaken to the new consciousness and mystical worldview and embrace it as our own because that is the living reality. We will live or die as a species on the premise of this awakening.
